Retrievers LOVE water. Take her/him out to your nearby lake or ocean and take off her leash and let her/him run in the sun. (Bring a suppliement of treats in-case she/he runs off)

I've never had a big dog before, but I know my yorkshire likes those cheese snacks for baby dogs even when she was 8 years old. Cheese is good for their bones too .. i think
